Maps

We provide our own specially-drawn route maps which should be all you need. Our maps show the route with directions at each junction and warnings etc. Plus lots of other info. However, if you really want an Ordnance Survey map, you can buy these maps from Amazon.co.uk...

Landranger Series: Scale of 1:50 000 (1.25 inches to 1 mile, 2 cm to 1 km). These maps show much more detail and are the ones to get if you really want to see some detail. Nantlle is on the left edge of the Snowdonia & Caernarfon map and on the right edge of the Lleyn Peninsula map.

Travel Maps Series: Scale of 1:175 000 (1 inch to 2.75 miles, 1 cm to 1.75 km). You could get by with this map.

Clicking on the maps below takes you to Amazon.co.uk. There you can click on the "LOOK INSIDE!" link (and follow through to the 3rd page) to see the coverage of each map – very useful.

A cheap way to do it!

Bus from Bangor to Nantlle

Catch Express Motors bus #1 or #1A from Bangor railway station to Caernarfon bus station, and change to the Express Motors bus #1N (or #1C) to Nantlle. Ask the driver to put you off by the phone box in the first half of Nantlle village (opposite the "Plas Baladeulyn, Trigonos" driveway) – the offical bus stop is 100 meters before the phone box.

2011 Winter Timetables

These times will change in May, so you will need to check them for yourself. Updated timetables should be available on the Gwynedd Council website. Bus timetables can be download from Gwynedd Council, Public Transport page (they keep changing their page urls, so you may have to for it). This is the info I have now (11 December 2011):-

Bangor to Caernarfon:-

Operated by: Express Motors. Number: #1 and #1A. From: Bangor railway station (stop H).

Departs Bangor station: 13.56, 14.22, 14.56, 15.22, 15.56, 16.56, 17.17 (X32) and 18.02.
Arrives Caernarfon (stop A): about 24 minutes later.

There is also the #5 and #X5 (operated by Arriva) from Bangor town centre (Stop A) about every 10 to 20 minutes.

Caernarfon to Nantlle:-

Operated by: Express Motors. Number: #1N. From: Caernarfon bus station (stop C).

There is also a Express Motors (#1C or 1N) bus from Caernarfon bus station (stop C) which only goes as far as Bro Silyn housing estate, which is about 1.5 miles before Nantlle (see map on back of paper info sheet):-

Do check this info for yourself. The info I have is from Gwynedd Councils' timetable 1N/1C (url may change).

Taxis to Nantlle

Trigonos (our venue) has an arrangement with Ivan (01286 881590) and Huw (01286 882323) to collect guests from Bangor railway station. Ivan and Huw are based in Penygroes, 2 miles from Trigonos, so have to travel about 16 miles to Bangor. To get the cheaper rate you need to phone them and arrange for them to meet you at the front of Bangor station (not in the cab rank next to platform 1). They can carry bikes if asked in adance.

Most of the other taxis that wait at Bangor station are considerably more expensive.

Spare info sheets are available to download – contact us for the url.

Links to other travel info and rail timetables are on our main Travel Page.

We also have a quick guide to Pronouncing Welsh Place Names.
